Dear friend of NBT,
The sudden death of John Signorello, CEO of IceWEB, Inc. at age 45 makes us all pause and reflect a bit.
The stress and strain of building any company…but especially a technology company competing against the tech giants day-after-day… is without question grueling. How ironic it was for his company to be named the best unified storage system the day before he died…some much needed validation and vindication for his IceWeb vision.
Bet you didn't know that John was also singer/songwriter/musician in the Big Band sound. His NYC Lights big band has played up and down the East Coast for years…and had 6 CDs of mostly original music to his credit.
All of which should teach us the most important lesson of life: every day wasted doing something you don't love or spent with people you don't like is a day you NEVER get back. Live'em all as if they are your last…and if you love what you do then it ain't work. John laid it out there every day without a net and loved it. He and his wife Carolyn built a strong family and two companies from scratch. He went out the way us entrepreneurs like it—quick and with few regrets.
I'll raise a toast to John this weekend as us Irish are prone to do. Hug your wife, kiss your kids and for the grace of God we're all still here…but with no guarantees about tomorrow.

Note: We have ended coverage of AbTech (ABHD) and SearchCore (SRER). We are adding new portfolio companies in CleanTech and break though consumer services with BarFresh Food Group, Inc. BRFH and a new company next week. Abtech was a nice winner for us…hope many of you sold when it broke $1 a few months ago. SearchCore is the new name for General Cannabis—a unique e-commerce company for which we wish all the best.
